The Full Review
Deep Ellum is what happens when a dive bar grows up, gets a James Beard nomination, and still keeps its soul. This Allston gastropub is consistently rated one of the best bars in Boston—and it's walking distance from BU.
The burger here is legendary. Like, "people write articles about it" legendary. Perfectly cooked, incredible toppings, on a brioche bun that's somehow not falling apart. The truffle fries are the perfect accompaniment, and yes, you'll eat all of them.
The beer program is serious—a rotating selection of craft beers from New England and beyond. If you're into craft beer, you'll find things here you can't get anywhere else. The whiskey selection is equally impressive for bourbon fans.
The vibe is cozy and dimly lit—more date night than dive bar. Exposed brick, warm lighting, the kind of place where you'll linger for hours without meaning to.
Yes, it's pricier than Harry's. But the food and drinks are in a completely different league. This is where you bring someone you're trying to impress, or where you treat yourself when dining points are running low but your self-respect isn't.
